Implementing a Fire Sprinkler Inspection, Testing, & Maintenance Program

The time to test its readiness is not during a fire. If you are a property owners or property manager who owns or managers a property which is protected by a fire sprinkler system cannot lead residents or tenants into a false sense of security.

The best way to know that the systems is ready is through a documented inspection, testing and maintenance program.

NFPA 25, is the Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. NFPA 25 establishes the minimum requirements for the periodic inspection, testing and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems.

A comprehensive program includes the following elements:

  • Inspection: A visual examination of a system to verify that it appears to be in operating condition and is free of physical damage.
  • Testing: A physical trying or operation of a system or part of a system to ensure or prove that it is functioning properly, as intended or to an acceptable standard of operation.
  • Maintenance: The work performed to repair and/or maintain equipment in operable condition. This service must be performed by a qualified contractor.
